Teaching, every day, in Italy.
Endless vistas reminiscent of the Renaissance masters, and the light from the paintings of the Macchiaioli everywhere you set your easel down.
You paint every day — guided study and plein air, out in the landscape rather than in a room. Between the working days there are excursions, meals together, and the villa itself. The year has been building to this, and it is taught like the rest of it.
Daily instruction
Classes every day with Lisa and Matthew — the same teaching as the studio, in a landscape that has been taught in for five hundred years.
Painting outdoors
Plein air, which is the part that cannot be simulated in a room. Changing light, real distance, and a subject that will not hold still for you.
The villa
Accommodation for the stay, and most meals. You arrive with materials and leave with work.
Excursions
Time away from the easel, looking at the work the tradition is built on.
Two rates, and the difference is the teaching.
You can bring one guest — a partner, or a parent traveling with a teenage student. They share the villa and the meals. They do not join the classes, which is the whole reason the two numbers are different.

- The Tuscany Residency
It starts with a conversation, not a checkout.
Tell us you’re interested and we’ll arrange a call — the dates, the villa, what the days actually look like, and anything about bringing someone with you. Nothing is owed at that point, and nothing is decided.
Students of the Conservatory finish their year here, so the residency is where the two things meet — but it is open on its own, and most people who ask have never studied with us.
